Letting Go

Letting go of what? All fears, desires, wants, cravings, outcomes, hopes, everything that has to do with your existence. Detach a portion of your mind and imagine watching yourself from a few feet away, as though you were watching a movie of you going through life.

It does not mean giving up on your goals and dreams, but releasing your outcomes prior to knowing them and letting go of unforeseen events before they occur. Take all the steps you think you must to achieve your goals, then let them go and accept the outcome good or bad. Let go of unforeseen negatives before they happen and you will be ready for anything.

Let go of a perfectly smooth, easy life, knowing that anything can and will happen. This is not to say be miserable because things happen anyway, but to be happy knowing that whatever happens, you will be OK. When things happen that are deemed bad by society, know that you can still be happy because you don't internalize them, and see an unfortunate situation as a part of who you are. If you take everything that happens personally, as though the universe or God was conspiring against you, that is internalizing, or becoming, even identifying with your outcomes. To identify the self with a situation or outcome is to be the outcome, good or bad. When the outcome is bad, you are bad.

But does a bad outcome or situation make you bad? No. You are the same good person you were before the situation or outcome appeared. When you know that you are always the same good person, no matter what happens, you will not let events or people tell you who you are. You are good. All humans are inherently good, at least when they show up on the planet. By letting go of outcomes, you separate the self from those outcomes and can view them from a distance as opposed to seeing them from within. When you experience events from within, it is difficult to distinguish what you experience from who you are.

So with your goals as well as things in life that pop up, let those outcomes go before they happen, even as you strive to make them go your way. When you "let go", your happiness is not dependant on the outcome. So you see, this is a way of always keeping in mind the big picture as opposed to focusing so intently on things and events and circumstances and hanging your very happiness/existence on the desired outcome or undesired event.

Yes, this is just another way of saying "don't worry", but for me it takes many different angles to get to a point where nothing that happens or doesn't happen holds power over my happiness.
