LOWERING YOUR STANDARDS

To be a happier person, you must make it easier to recognize a happy event. In other words, if you need to win the lotto in order to be happy, it’s likely you never will be. But if you lower your standards, so to speak, or you allow little things that before meant nothing, to contribute to your HAPPINESS score, your level of HAPPINESS will rise.

The more little things you notice as good, the more likely the sum of them will increase your overall HAPPINESS, whereas before, achieving the same level of HAPPINESS used to require a significant event.

It may sound a little corny, but you’re going to have to recognize something as simple as making a green traffic light a great thing. It means you save time, wear on your brakes, and the fuel required to accelerate after a red light. If you can think of more, do it. It’s all just a matter of looking at things a little differently.

If in the beginning you feel like you are having to lie to yourself to find the good or the joy in something mundane, then lie away. Eventually your mind will generate these good thoughts automatically. When that happens, viola! You will be a happier person.
